How it Works
Evidence Based
Clinical massage therapy is one of the evidence-based, complementary and integrative health (CIH) approaches within the VHA Whole Health System of care covered by the Veterans medical benefits package when deemed clinically necessary by their care team per VHA Directive 1137 – Provision of Complementary and Integrative Health, published in May 2017.

Health Benefits
The health benefits of massage are well known. Several studies quantify the positive effects of massage on veterans: specifically, one study published in Military Medicine magazine, highlights the following positive results:
-
Improvement in physical pain.
-
Anxiety and irritability reduction.
-
Depression and PTSD improvement.
-
Partner benefits. Veterans who had partners that participated in the study also reported improvements in self-compassion, depression, and worry.
Greg Smith of Veteran's Medical Massage is trained in the latest medical massage methods to help improve the lives of our nation's best.
Eligibility
Veterans may be eligible for medical massage through a provider, such as Veteran's Medical Massage, depending on their health care needs or circumstances, and if they meet specific eligibility criteria.
In most cases, Veterans must receive approval from the VA before receiving care from a community provider to avoid being billed for the care. VA staff members generally make all eligibility determinations for community care.
Veteran's Medical Massage is an approved and accredited community provider with the VA Community Care Network.
